PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity market stayed in the south zone. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 209.798 billion after dropping MUR 896 million (about US$25.1 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 210.694 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) plunged by 0.43 percent or 8.09 points to close at 1,893.94 (lowest level since March 2013) and SEM10 index dipped by 060 percent or 2.51 points to end at 359.51 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 10,885,385 (a rise relative to volume of 3,976,960 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 80.617 million (a fall relative to MUR 183.911 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings Limited recorded 9,482,809 (about 87.12 percent of total volume) at MUR 7.694 million and CIM Financial registered 407,185 traded stocks amounted to MUR 3.250 million. New Mauritius Hotels Limited traded 329,751 at MUR 5.774 million and MCB Group recorded a total volume of 235,100 shares at MUR 49.077 million. ALTEO Limited also recorded 151,747 shares at MUR 5.175 million.
Looking at the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 20 traded securities there were 3 price leaders and 6 price laggards, hence the market sentiment ended negative. Air Mauritius Limited grew by 0.97 percent to end at MUR 10.40. Whereas, New Mauritius Hotels Limited closed at MUR 17.50 after dropping 2.51 percent and Rogers & Co Limited slacked by 2.18 percent to end at MUR 26.90. Also, Lux Island Resorts Limited sagged by 1.63 percent to settle at MUR 60.50, SBM Holdings Limited declined by 1.22 to trade at MUR 0.81 and Promotion And Development Limited tumbled by 1.03 percent to end at MUR 96.00.
The DEMEX index closed at 202.06 points after dipping by 0.45 points or 0.22 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.681 billion after losing MUR 111 million (relative to MUR 49.792 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 2.561 million exchanged in 100,585 traded securities. Constance surged by 1.00 percent to trade at MUR 101.00 and Tropical Paradise Company Limited (Preference) gained 0.58 percent to end at MUR 173.00. However, Union Sugar Estate dipped by 5.00 percent to end MUR 38.00 and Tropical Paradise Company Limited (Ordinary) slipped by 4.33 percent to trade at MUR 5.74. Also, Phoenix Investment Limited sagged by 1.96 percent to trade at MUR 250.00 and EUDCOS declined by 0.66 to close at MUR 15.00.
